Carry out your sound project



with the help of Sons de Barcelona!

The Music Technology Group (MTG) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona started in 2008 the project Sons de Barcelona (Sounds of Barcelona) in order to offer to everybody a database of sounds of this city created in a collaborative way, with the contribution of the citizens themselves and integrated into the international project freesound.org, also from MTG. The sounds are recordings of acoustic environments of Barcelona or different sounds generated in very different ways by the users, and published under Creative Commons License (so they can be freely re-used again). The Sounds of Barcelona team conducts workshops addressed to different collectives in order to propagate the use of audio technologies, to teach how to take advantage of all their possibilities, and to awake an interest towards working with sounds.

The aim of this call is to activate, to promote, and to support works related to the sound sphere of the city of Barcelona and it is addressed to everybody interested in make their projects known.

RULES

1. Participants

- People of any nationality and age, interested in working with the Sounds of Barcelona, being individuals or collectives, can present a project to the call. If they are collectives, they will have to assign a representative member who will submit the project.

2. Projects

- Projects presented can be of any kind and they must use sound as an expressive or conceptual medium or make a reflection about aspects related to the sound field in Barcelona. According to the pedagogical aim of Sounds of Barcelona, we encourage participants to present projects involving students, schools, secondary schools, etc. in the way that you find best suitable. The organizers of this call will help, if wished, to contact the schools where we have done a workshop and that have become Sounds of Barcelona’s users.

- Some of the projects that you can propose, among others, are: sound or audiovisual installation, audiovisual work, music, radio piece, performance, action, research paper, documentary work, software, web, virtual community, etc.

- A committee will be constituted to make a selection of the received projects. These criteria will be taken into account to evaluate the projects:

• The correspondence of the project with the rules of the call.
• The interest and quality of the project.
• The viability of the project according to the presented documentation.

Projects involving educational community (students, teachers, etc.) will be positively appreciated but it is not an indispensable requirement.

3. Benefits

- The selected participants will have under their disposition the infrastructure, technical equipment, advising and human resources from Sounds of Barcelona project in MTG and Phonos Foundation, and the advising of the Sonology Department of ESMUC (Music High School of Catalunya).

• Post-production Studio

4. Diffusion of the works

- The organizers of the call will promote and coordinate the diffusion of the works, in agreement with the authors and under the format that both consider more appropriate.
Apart from being presented in different spaces of the city, all projects will have diffusion in websites: barcelona.freesound.org and freesound.org, where they will be documented.

- The more outstanding projects will take a special category and will be shown in a prominent way in freesound.org (the website has more than 16000 visits per day).

- All participants will be taken into account in next events organized by Sounds of Barcelona and Freesound.org to present their work and /or participate in an active way (conferences, workshops, concerts, etc.)

5. Obligations of the participants

- To inform us regularly about the state of the production process and inform if there is any change according to the original proposal.

- To respect the rules indicated by MTG, Fundació Phonos and ESMUC related to the uses of spaces and resources.

- To achieve one of the two following options:

• Publishing under the Creative Commons Licence the sounds that they generate for the project in the website of Sons de Barcelona or in Freesound.org
• Using in the project the sounds that other users have uploaded and that they already belong to the database, or referring to them.

6. Presentation of the projects and deadline

Everybody interested in participate to this call for works will have to present their proposal with this information:

• NAME OF THE PARTICIPANT OR NAME OF THE COLLECTIVE (specify the name of a member)
• DNI of the participant or member of the collective (Passport or some equivalent id)
• CURRICULUM VITAE
• PROPOSED PROJECT
• ACTUAL STATE OF THE PROJECT
• TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
• SCHEDULE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT
• OTHER DOCUMENTATION. You can add all kind of documentats (audio, video, etc.) in order to facilitate the evaluation of the proposal. Documents can be of previous projects or about the one currently presented.
